"There is a brilliant student in every child." --unknown
Welcome to my E-folio site. My name is Xia Yang. I will be graduating from Concordia University in May 2009 with a major in ESL Education (K-12) and a minor in Hmong Studies.
This past summer, I was a scholar of the UESS program, where I was given the opportunity to teach high school students at Como Senior High School. I taught Reading to high school students who did not pass their Reading Basic Standard or Reading MCA. Through this first hand experienced, working with urban learners, it helped me to better understand diverse students' background.
A little bit about myself, I was born in a refugee camp
in Thailand. I came to the United States when I was 4 years old. I am the oldest of 6 children and the first the go and will graduate from college. I have lived in Minnesota since 1999 and is please to make Minnesota my permanent home.
Being a teacher has always been part of my career goal. Since I was the oldest in my family, I have many responsibilities. My mom was a single mother, so I grew up taking care of my siblings. Having that kind of childhood, I grew up knowing that I want my whole career and future to be evolve around children. My mother was the biggest inspiration for my career decision. Teaching is a passionate I have that no words can explain the feelings I get from it.
